Jane Tomlinson - Walk for All

Sunday 14th August 2011, The first Jane Tomlinson Walk for All, walking festival will be held in and around Settle and Malhamdale

Taking place on Sunday 14th August walkers from across Yorkshire and the Pennies will pull on their walking boots to take part in the Yorkshire Dales biggest walking festival. With distances suitable for everyone, participants will have the opportunity to either take on a marathon challenge or simply enjoy a steady stroll with friends and family.

During the festival, 2500 people will take to the dales and enjoy some breath-taking views as take part in one of the festivals four distances, either the 26mile marathon walk, 14 mile, 5 mile or 4.5 mile Walk and Wheel route.

Following on from the highly successful Run For All Series and the recently launched Swim For All, the Yorkshire Swimming Festival is the latest addition to the Jane Tomlinson Appeal events calendar.

Mike Tomlinson said: “Since the launch of the Appeal, the plan has always been to put on a mass participation walk and what better setting is there than Settle and the Yorkshire Dales. Having grown up in Settle and as a family having done numerous walks throughout the Dales, putting on the Yorkshire Walking Festival was an easy decision. Jane and I often used to escape the city and jump on the train out to Settle for the day and enjoy a day of exploring the Dales.”

On the launching the walk, Mike was joined by event partner charities and Clare Balding at Leeds train station where event supporters Northern Rail held an official naming ceremony following their request to name a train after Jane.

Northern Rail have also generously teamed up with Walk For All to offer 300 return tickets on Sunday 14th August, with all fees from these tickets going straight to the Jane Tomlinson Appeal.

Whether entrants are keen walkers, families looking for something to do with the children this summer, individuals looking for a new challenge and fancy taking on the marathon walk or simply looking for an excuse to visit the Dales then this is the event for them. As the name suggests it’s a ‘Walk For All.’
