BEFORE: Motorway size Signpost!
Signs everywhere and some not too subtle for a picturesque Dales village, Kirby Malham Parish Council have in recent years tried to reduce the impact of garish road signs with the latest development being the replacement of the “Motorway Sign” in the middle of the village with a more traditional finger post. Using old photographs and postcards of the village from days gone by a new sign was designed and approval sort for the removal of the old sign. The signpost was built & installed by David Clements with help from NYCC Highways department.
AFTER: The new Traditional Malham Village Signpost
BEFORE: wooden sleeper style bridge
Post Office Bridge has been providing a shortcut for locals and visitors for decades but as it was no more than a few railway sleepers a more fitting and appropriate bridge was required. The new Post Office Bridge was designed and built by local firm Dinsdales and the Railings by our own village blacksmith. The Parish Council applied for LEADER funding and YDNPA promised help and some funding towards the bridge and to adopt the path as a footpath. The footbridge also has a decorative handrail (from a design titled “The Sheep Dip Railings”) made by our village blacksmith Annabelle Bradley.
AFTER: The new Post Office Clapper Bridge & Sheep Dip Railings 2012
In April 2006 Craven District Council decided to close the very run down and unmaintained Public Conveniences (Toilets) in the centre of Malham village. These are now run by the Parish Council and have been repaired to an acceptable standard. Various fundraising activities are in place to maintain and keep these facilities open, if you have any suggestions and improvements for these facilities please contact the Parish Council.
